Kindergarten

I don't even know where to begin this post. School started on Monday and I feel like we have been going non stop! It's crazy how summer is over- just like that.

I have had all kinds of emotions this week.

SADNESS  because MD has officially left IPC and its precious sheltered environment.

I am so PROUD of her and how she has accepted her new routine. We are out of the door by 7:20... Fed, dressed and ready to go! Which is a far cry from just last week.... 8:00 was a "normal" wake up time in our house! And she does it all with a smile :)

My bottom lip quivers when I have to drop her off at 7:40 each day- so she won't miss the "late bell" at 7:50. Just to see her little five year old self walk down the sidewalk into big girl school alone about does me in!

I am so HAPPY when I pick her up and she tells me about her day with enthusiasm! She has always been eager to learn and my heart is so full that she loves school and all that they do during the day!

I am AMAZED at all that she has taken in these three days at school.

She has told me that she never wants to eat in the cafeteria because it "stanks." Her word- not mine! In all seriousness she has absorbed so much... They are required to learn a lot and the amount of independence given is a little overwhelming. For example, I am used to an adult putting her in the car at carpool and now I am greeted by the Cherokee Bend
Safety Patrol. They are no more than 6th graders... Opening my car door and telling me to have a wonderful day!

For all my Memphis friends... Who are used to private school education. Birmingham and specifically Mtn. Brook is a hidden gem. They have wonderful public school education. The elementary schools are "neighborhood schools." Meaning a lot of kids can walk or ride their bikes to school. Literally in the middle of a neighborhood.... I just love it!

If you are still reading- I'm sorry! I just have one last thing I want to share.

Mary Drew has a very young teacher who was just married. A lot of the moms have been skeptical but I couldn't be more excited! I was once a young teacher and I remember how much I truly loved the children in my classroom! She is cute, cute and super sweet! She emails us pictures and is going to be a great fit for MD!!!

Mary Drew and her classmates!!

One happy little girl!!! Who has surprised me this week and made me so very proud!

  2. Molly, she is just precious!!! Can't believe she is in Kindergarten. And I lived in Mtn. Brook for a while. VERY jealous of the school situation there. We are holding Kate back so she is doing JK again, but I know I will be holding back tears when she goes 5 full days next year! Memphis misses you. And I will miss you even more once Hunt is at PDS and won't be able to have Mrs. Beard!
